Are you required to file a federal tax return?

Once you file your 2007 tax return, you will be automatically registered for the stimulus payment. You do not have to do anything else.

Are you not required to file a federal tax return?

You will need to file a 2007 federal tax return in order to be eligible for the stimulus payment. Retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must file a return for 2007 in order to be eligible for the stimulus payment. The deadline for filing your return is October, 15, 2008.
